Yahara Lakes Information

Dane County Office of Lakes and Watersheds
The Office of Lakes and Watersheds coordinates water-related policy initiatives across the County, and informs and educates about water resource issues and actions citizens can take to protect lakes, streams and wetlands.

Madison & Dane County Beaches
All public beaches in Dane County are monitored by Public Health - Madison & Dane County. During the swimming season (Memorial Day - Labor Day), Public Health conducts water quality testing at 13 Madison beaches, one UW beach and two Dane County beaches. All other Dane County Beaches are monitored by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) or by municipalities.

Lake Levels
The Land & Water Resources Department is responsible for maintaining lake levels for the four major lakes.

INFOS for Yahara Waters
The INFOS system is being developed to provide nowcast and forecast information for the Yahara Lakes. INFOS provides real-time data information, the integration of models, and the coupling of these real-time results to the water portal interface. A suite of models integrated to INFOS are aimed at prediction of: spatial water level fluctuations, circulation/water flow movements, sediment transport, nutrient fate, and thermal structure.

General Yahara Lake Information
Facts and figures for each of the Yahara lakes.

North Temperate Lakes Long Term Ecological Research
This program studies the ecology of lakes as one of a network of sites established by the National Science Foundation to support research on long-term ecological phenomena. We are interested in how biophysical setting, climate, and changing land use and cover interact to shape lake characteristics and dynamics over time (past, present, future).

Wisconsin DNR Surface Water Data Viewer
The Surface Water mapping application provides water resources, monitoring and water quality assessment data.
